چکیده

The steady-state creep rate of Ni-base metallic foams, with superalloy composition (in wt. pct) Ni7.8∼9.1Al (relative density, ρ = 2.5-2.6) and Ni-13.5∼16.6Cr-5.1∼8.9Al (ρ = 2.8∼3.0), was measured under a range of temperatures (680∼825°C) and applied stresses (0.1∼0.3 MPa), and compared with that of NiAl intermetallic foams (ρ = 5.3). The stress exponent and activation energy are within the expected range for bulk superalloys. At 825°C, Ni-Cr-Al foams display creep rates lower by ca. a factor 10 as compared to Ni-Al foams, and higher by ca. a factor 10 as compared to the NiAl intermetallic foams. These differences are discussed in terms of foam density and strut material creep resistance.

Synthesis, structure, and mechanical properties of Ni–Al and Ni–Cr–Al superalloy foams

Reticulated nickel foams were alloyed with 8–9 wt% Al or 14–18 wt% Cr and 5–9 wt% Al in a three-step method consisting of (i) gas-phase deposition of Cr and/or Al onto the struts of a pure Ni foam by pack-cementation at 1000 C; (ii) homogenization at 1200 C to remove concentration gradients and to solutionize the alloyed struts; (iii) aging at 900 C to form c0 precipitates within the struts. Simulation of oxidation-nitridation-induced microstructural degradation in a cracked Ni- based superalloy at high temperature

In turbine engines, high temperature components made of superalloys may crack in a creep process during service. With the inward flux of the gases, e.g. oxygen and nitrogen, along those cracks, the microstructure of the superalloy substrate nearby the cracks may degrade by internal oxidation and nitridation. The aim of this study is to investigate and simulate the oxidation-nitridation-induced ...

Mechanical properties of oxidation-resistant Ni–Cr foams

Reticulated nickel foams were alloyed with chromium by pack-chromizing, resulting in Ni–Cr foams with 9–32 wt.% Cr and 2.6–3.5% relative density. The oxidation resistance at 1000 ◦C of the Ni–Cr foams and the corresponding bulk Ni–Cr alloys is the same, provided the foam’s higher surface area is taken into account. The foam compressive yield stress at ambient temperature is in agreement with mo...

Design of a creep resistant nickel base superalloy for power plant applications. Part 2 - Phase diagram and segregation simulation

Models have been developed and used as tools to design a new `made to measure’ nickel base superalloy for power plant applications. In Part 1 Gaussian processes were used to model the mechanical properties of superalloys, and have been used as a basis for the design of a new Ni ± Cr ± W ± Al ± Ti ± Fe ± Si ± C ± B superalloy with desirable properties. In this part, an attempt has been made to d...

TENSION/COMPRESSION ASYMMETRY IN CREEP BEHAVIOR OF A Ni-BASED SUPERALLOY

Orientation and temperature dependence of yield stress or CRSS (Critical Resolved Shear Stress) and tension/compression anisotropy of the yield stress or CRSS have been shown by Shah and Duhl (1), Heredia and Pope (2), and Miner et al. (3). Tension/compression asymmetry in the yield strength of Ni-based superalloys has been explained in terms of the “core width effect” (4). Shah and Duhl (5) ob...
